Laboratoire Olivier: people at the heart of performance
Going against purely productivist models, Laboratoire Olivier relies on management based on proximity, well-being and team commitment. This robust model is rapidly expanding, as embodied in an ambitious new project in Brussels.
A company on a human scale.
Although Laboratoire Olivier has been growing steadily for a number of years, it strives to remain a human organisation. The group, which operates in the five Walloon provinces, is refusing to become a faceless entity. Each site, team and individual is seen as an essential component of their collective success. “Our operation is not vertical and remote. There is a very strong desire to maintain concrete connections between the teams and their managers,” explains Sandy De Spiegeleer, the company’s Managing Director.
Proximity as a management philosophy.
Unlike other organisations of a similar size, Laboratoire Olivier management has chosen to remain close to its teams irrespective of their hierarchical level. This desire for proximity is not an empty promise, it is apparent in their deeds. Mr De Spiegeleer does not hesitate to travel throughout Wallonia to meet employees in their work environments.
This approach is far from symbolic — it provides a better understanding of the concrete issues facing teams and fosters a culture of authentic exchange. “This type of management creates a real culture of trust. It’s important that everyone, no matter their position, contributes to a shared project, and they deserve to find pleasure and meaning in it,” adds De Spiegeleer.
Standardising processes to enhance quality.
In a sector as sensitive as healthcare, organisational rigour is essential. Laboratoire Olivier has gradually introduced standardised processes across all its laboratories and sampling centres. This harmonisation not only ensures consistent quality of analyses and services, but also guarantees improved traceability, greater responsiveness and smooth coordination between the various sites.
Whether in terms of reception protocols, processing procedures or security standards, everything is designed to offer the same high quality standards and ensure the entire network is reliable.
There is a very strong desire to maintain concrete connections between the teams and their managers.
Listening to patients and doctors.
Patients, and the healthcare professionals who support them, are at the heart of Laboratoire Olivier’s mission every day. The company places vital importance on understanding and anticipating the concrete needs of these two groups. This involves constant monitoring, careful analysis of feedback from the field and ongoing dialogue with doctors and patients. “We don’t just develop effective procedures, we also ensure that they reflect the realities on the ground,” explains Sandy De Spiegeleer.
Looking to the future.
The company’s development is guided by a long-term vision that respects its identity. Projects are designed to be consistent with the company’s culture and historical values, and its teams’ expectations.
With this in mind, the group is currently launching a major new project in Brussels: opening a new laboratory. Located in Woluwe-Saint-Lambert, the Medical Capital Lab Brussels (MCLB) will comprise a clinical biology analysis laboratory and an anatomical pathology and cytology analysis laboratory. The move to Brussels marks a clear desire to strengthen the Group’s presence in the heart of the Belgian capital, while at the same time focusing on greater accessibility and cross-functionality between the different areas of expertise.
Another way of doing business.
By standardising its processes and centring its management model on people, Laboratoire Olivier demonstrates that it’s possible to combine high standards with a caring approach.
Of course, it doesn’t claim to have all the answers, but it is moving forward, in its own humble and steadfast way, towards a more human and therefore more sustainable business world.
